I can't remember the exact code and if you have already tried this I'm not sure what's wrong but have you put a keyboard event for when the key is released? I've had that issue too where I press the key and my character will take off into oblivion. Maybe try google as well for key events in flash as3.

maybe you should check your keybord commands to see if they are stuck in a keybord event status...
(for example, if you press shift many times, (more than 10), the shift button then changes into an event keyboard button. and thus, it makes a ''beep'' sound each time you press it, and it locks-on this position.)

if thats not the case, try to un-install and re-install the keyboards program again in your PC.

if that fails, try to reinstall the keyboards program manually, by using the company's CD.

if that fails as well, then try to upgrade your flash version, or use only AS2 in your PC.
if you HAVE to use up-to-date programs, such as AS3, then uninstall your version of flash/AS3 that you have on your personal computer, and re-install it.
if the problem persists, then just upgrade your flash/AS3 into a newer/better version, or use a patch to fix this.

and if all of the above fail, then get a new keyboard.

Oh! Sorry about that Hm... I'm not sure what's wrong. It worked fine for me but hopefully someone else can help. Oh, and the issue with clicking to make the controls work I believe is an enter stage or enter frame event that needs to be put in. I can't remember which one though, it's been a while.

Lol, occasionally the debugging option will show you kind-of where the error is but sometimes it's just a small typo and you're like WHAT! Lol, I feel your pain.

smash the keyboard with your hand. Really, that helped me out. (with that thing AS3 or AS2 i have no idea :(

ok, in that case, you should go at your local tech support and adress that problem.
or you should contact your laptop's company and request/discuss/elaborate about the keyboard problem.

or, ultimately, you can always tell to a technician to replace the keyboard mechanisms/keys from your laptop with a new set, if your laptop is worth salvaging/reparing.

Sticky controls? I had that issue once back when I had an old laptop. The main reason was my laptop = crap (not telling anything about yours)

As for the second real reason, I've found out when I was playing the game here on NG - Chaos Faction 2 (which is still state of the art gaming) where the author posted solution link.
Apparently that link doesn't work anymore, but here's what I remember:

I had to turn off safe mode on my browser (I was still using the uber crap Explorer back then) it was located somewhere in options-network.....basically this fixed it.

Another thing was I remember in Project Nexus where my character where going really really slow. Clearing the web cache along with history, unwanted plugins I've never noticed them before and other useless stuff fixed that too.

You don't know until you try it. I'm about 90% sure it will solve your issue. The rest might be your keyboard kuz you bashed it so much like that crazy german kid on YouTube lol. Seriously, I never blame my keyboard. I got an issue when my character suddenly stops moving no matter what I press and then suddenly does all the moves I pressed before. That's because I should never had wireless keyboard with a crappy connection in the first place...
